Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home & Crematory is one of 3 funeral homes that make up VanArsdale Funeral Service, Inc., owned and operated by Mike and Sheri VanArsdale. The VanArsdale’s purchased the funeral home on January 29, 1999, four years after Mike began working as a funeral director in Lebo, at the time, Jones Crable Funeral Home.
So where does ‘Jones’ come from? The original funeral home opened in 1928 by Sheri’s grandparents, Roy and Helen Jones and was operated out of the home at 101 W 6 th St, where Sheri and Mike live today. In 1974, alongside their daughter Jean and her husband Fred Rowley, Jr. (Sheri’s parents), the existing funeral home was built, right next door to the original house, where The Rowley family remained until they sold the business in the early 1990’s.
It was a simple job opportunity that brought Mike and Sheri full circle back to Lebo, KS. Mike had served his funeral director and embalming apprenticeship and had been working in Topeka, KS. By moving to Lebo, they could raise their growing family in the same house that was Sheri’s childhood home and be closer to family in the area. When the opportunity came to purchase the funeral home, it was only right to leave Jones in the name, thus Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home was born, honoring family history and the future to come.
In November 2023, the funeral home became Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home & Crematory with the addition of the cremation facility to the south end of the existing funeral home. With state-of-the-art cremation equipment, the funeral home could now provide on-site cremation services for all VanArsdale Funeral Service, Inc. locations, eliminating the need for 3rd party
crematories. They also installed a pet crematory unit, extending decades of care and service to include the community’s four-legged companions. In addition to the crematory, a new parking lot was installed directly west of the funeral home, allowing for more parking off the streets.
