Darl Shepard

William Darl Shepard, affectionately known as Darl, passed away on August 23 2024, at the Life Care Center of Burlington, Kansas, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and conversations. Darl was born on November 16, 1948, in Yates Center, Kansas to parents Melvin Darl and Lavern (Culver) Shepard, both of whom proceed him in death. 

Darl dedicated 31 years of his life to the Burlington Street Department, where he served as an operator until his retirement at the age of 57. His strong work ethic was a value he carried with him from childhood on through his entire life. Being idle was not in his vocabulary. 

Darl treasured spending time with family and celebrated his role as a grandfather to six grandchildren, who brought joy and happiness into his life. Darl's engaging personality made him a beloved figure in the lives of those around him. Known for being a social butterfly, Darl had the remarkable ability to hold good conversations. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, illustrating his generous spirit that many admired.

Darl is survived by his wife, Yvonne Shepard of their home in Burlington, KS; his children, Amy Gardner (husband Ken), Jared Shepard (wife Kelly), and Adam Shepard; his sisters, Mildred Smith, Alberta Tillis, Betty Price, and Donna Staten and Peggy Smith; grandchildren, Dustin Shepard (Jorden), Evan Shepard, Trevere Shepard, Shelby Shepard (Noah), Tabitha Shepard, and Trey Strawder; and many others to carry on his legacy of kindness and hard work.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the First Baptist Church, 1101 N 4th, Burlington, KS.
