Vern L. Nicklin, 86, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday morning Sept. 7, 2016.
Vern was born March 9, 1930 to Roy and Verna Nicklin in Emporia, Kansas. His parents and sister (Mariel Barrett) preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Pearl D. Nicklin; three children, Anthony Page Nicklin of Ingleside Texas, Timothy Vern Nicklin of Madison Kansas, Anita Beth Nicklin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; step daughter, Frances Schrock of Olpe; step son, Danny Mease of Grand Junction, Colorado; three step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
Vern was a farmer, carpenter, machine shop supervisor, cabinet maker, minister, welder, painter, janitor, and musician/songwriter among other things, but was best known for his gentle spirit and faith towards God. He wrote many gospel songs that are testimonies of God’s love and faithfulness in his life and thoroughly enjoyed playing steel guitar with different gospel groups.
A memorial service will be held at the VanArsdale Funeral Home in Madison on Saturday September 17 at 11:00 A.M. The family requests donations be made to Hartford, Kansas food pantry or your local food pantry. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
