Thomas R. Myers EMPORIA- Thomas R. Myers, 64, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia. Thomas R. Myers was born July 17, 1950 in Emporia, the son of Robert Edward and Dorothea Grace (Bush) Myers Mitchell He attended school in Osage City through junior high. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1968. He later graduated from Pittsburgh State University with a master's degree in Psychology. He was working at the Mental Center of East Central Kansas since 1986. Tom was very active in the Emporia community serving on city commission for 14 years and as Mayor of Emporia in 1995, 2001 and 2005. He also very involved with SOS. He married Peggy Atchison on February 21, 1999 in Emporia. Tom will be remembered by his wife, Peggy of the home; a daughter, Megan Myers-Reyes of Bentonville, Arkansas; three step-daughters, Christine Harkins of Newton, Sherrie Pica of Groesbeck, Ohio and Cindy Johnson of Emporia; a son, Robert Myers of Bern, Kansas; three brothers, Paul Myers of Emporia, Lafe Myers of Emporia and Bob Mitchell of Elmdale; two step-brothers, Kenny Mitchell of Arvada, Colorado and Chuck Mitchell of Hays, Kansas and eleven grandchildren, Sabrina and Marissa Myers, Schuyler White, Kirstie, Kellye, Ryan Pica, Thomas and Stephanie Johnson, Maurice Harkins, Tony Lemus, Rowin Harkins. He was preceded by an infant sister, Doris Louise Myers; a brother, Jay Myers and a step-daughter, Ronnie Ann Baker. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
