Roy "Levern" Love

May 21, 2022 — February 11, 2015

Roy "Levern" Love, 92, passed away late Wednesday evening at the St. Luke Living Center in Marion, Kansas. Levern was born on May 21, 1922 on the family farm near Neosho Rapids, the son of Roy and Alice Pearson Love. He attended Neosho Rapids High School and graduated with the Class of 1940. The following summer he moved to Wichita and went to work at Beech Aircraft Company. Levern was joined in marriage to Myra Lee Irwin on October 18, 1942 in Emporia. Six weeks later he was called to serve in the United States Navy. During his time in boot camp in Green Bay, Wisconsin he sang with the Great Lakes Naval Chorus. They spent three months in Charleston, South Carolina, awaiting his ship being readied for duty with the Caribbean and South Atlantic fleet. After spending part of the time in South America and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida he was sent to the South Pacific until receiving his honorable discharge at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1945. When he returned home he enrolled at the Emporia State Teachers College. He became interested in electrical work after helping a neighbor electrician do rural wiring and decided to open a shop of his own in Lebo in 1947. He did much of the rural wiring in the Coffey County area as most homes were getting electricity for the first time. Levern became a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 1952 and branched out into industrial wiring while hospitals, schools, churches and universities, as well as other industries in the area continued to expand. Levern retired from his electrical work after 37 years. He renewed his interest in farming when he bought the family farm and spent the remainder of his life there where he began his hobby of collecting and restoring antique tractors. They enjoyed square dancing and traveling in their RV, spending a number of winters in South Texas and Arizona. Levern and Myra Lee were members of the Lebo United Methodist Church. His other memberships included, Antique Power Club, Emporia Men's Barbershop Quartet, Lebo American Legion, Lebo Lions Club and Lebo Masonic Lodge. He will remain dear to the hearts of his daughters, Jane King and husband Larry of Marion, Kansas, Nancy Croucher of Overland Park, Kansas; sons, John Scott Love and wife Leanna of Lebo, Kansas, Michael L. Love and wife Vicki of Neosho Rapids, Kansas and Andrew K. Love and wife Brenda of Neosho Rapids, Kansas; ten grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville W. Love of Loch Lloyd, Missouri and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Myra Lee Love on January 29, 2014.
