Roger L. Walters

April 30, 1941 — December 9, 2015

Roger L. Walters, 74, passed away, Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the Sunset Manor in Waverly. He was born April 30, 1941 in Paola, Kansas the son of Herbert and Evelyn McColly Walters. Roger attended Paola High School and graduated with the Class of 1959. He went on to attend the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. He entered the United States Army on September 30, 1966 and proudly served until being honorably discharged on September 29, 1972. Following his military service he worked as a remodeling carpenter in the Emporia area for several years. In the mid 1980's Roger began working at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Station as an insulator. This work took him to plants throughout the Midwest until his health caused him to retire in 1997. He will remain dear to the hearts of his lifelong companion, Kathleen Hutchinson of their home in Lebo; children, Tamara (Alex) DeBaun of Valley Center, Bret Walters of Emporia, Sena (Kevin) Heineken of Madison and Bryan (Tammy) Walters of Olathe; a sister Dorothy (Ross) Porter of Liberty, Mo.; eight grandchildren; many extended family, close friends and faithful dog Jazz. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Delbert, Gerald, Paul, Herbertand a sister, Eileen Stevens. ��Services will be held at 11:30 A.M., Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. Sunday evening. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Gentiva Hospice or Donor's Choice and sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com. Cremation will follow services. ��
