Rodger Kent Wilson

Rodger Kent Wilson, 76, of Olivet, KS, passed away on September 28, 2021, in Emporia, KS.
Rodger was born on July 24, 1945, in Anthony, KS to parents, Glen and Opal (Angle) Wilson. Rodger attended elementary school in Anthony until moving to Madison, where he graduated from Madison High School in 1963. After high school, Rodger earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS.
After college, Roger was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served as a drill instructor. For anyone who knew Rodger, it was hard for them to imagine such a kind, caring man as a drill Sergeant. Rodger met the love of his life, Carolyn Pockrus, while stationed in Ft. Bragg, South Carolina. They were united in marriage on November 2, 1967.
After his discharge from the military, the couple moved to Madison, KS, where Rodger worked for Didde Web Press Corporation in Emporia, KS. When the company sold, Rodger and Carolyn moved to Colorado to follow his work. They moved back to Kansas to their current home in the Lebo/Olivet area where Rodger took a job as a contract draftsman for Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant until he retired.
Rodger’s memory will forever live on in the heart of his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Wilson of Olivet, KS; four children, Teresa of Ottawa, KS, Patty Fletcher (David) of Rich Hill, MO, Lynn Wilson (Denise) of Saginaw, TX, and Roger Wilson (Becky) of Springfield, MO; one brother, Gary Wilson of Omaha, NE; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation time will be held from 6:00-7:30 PM on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021 followed by funeral services on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Both will be held at VanArsdale Funeral Home, 202 W. Main St, Madison, KS 66860. Burial will follow funeral services at Blakely Cemetery, Madison, KS.
