Richard Lee Albert, 76, passed away early Monday, November 18, 2024 at his home in Olpe.

He was born October 16, 1948 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Thomas and Leota Scales Albert. Dick attended Virgil High School until it closed in 1965. He would finish his education at Hamilton High School and graduate with the Class of 1966.

Dick spent the majority of his younger years working in the oil fields of the surrounding area following in the footsteps of his father. He spent time on rotary drilling rigs and pulling units eventually taking a job with Texaco conducting maintenance of the pipeline to El Dorado.

Dick married Cynthia Hess in 1971. They had three children together Amy, Jason and Megan. The two would later divorce.

For the past 30 years, Dick worked with his son operating the Dunaway Cattle Company. Although he did slow down over the past few years he remained as active in the day to day operations as he could.

He had an adventurous streak in him. In his younger years he raced at numerous Kansas drag strips including Manhattan, Wichita and Hutchinson. Jason and Dick participated in team roping at several ranch rodeos throughout the years. He was known for his strong views on the ways of the world and seldom passed on an opportunity to express his opinions and engage in lively debates.
