Reverend Warren Wilson

��Rev. Warren D. Wilson, 75, of Lebo, Kansas passed away on Saturday September 26, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. ��Warren was born June 26, 1940 in Creston, IA as the youngest child of George Savannah and Edith Bramow Wilson. ��His greatest childhood memories were family trips to California and working in the family owned John Deere Implement and DeSoto Auto business in Bedford, Iowa. Especially fond were the family gospel singing times in the home where his mother played the piano, his dad sang bass, his brother tenor, and his sister alto. As a child Warren sang the soprano part but finally grew up to sing bass.�� ��Warren earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Sioux Falls, served in the Red Bull Division of the Iowa National Guard and began preaching in small churches. He taught 6th grade for four years in Kansas City while completing his studies in "Town and Country Ministries" at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. He was ordained to the work of the gospel ministry in May 1973 at the First Baptist Church of Bedford, Iowa by the American Baptist Churches of the USA.�� ��Warren married Ida May Halliburton Poer on December 23, 1970 in Overland Park. Together they served American Baptist Churches in the Iowa towns of Lamont, Aurora, and Denison and in the Kansas towns of Norton, Pratt, Lebo and Waverly.���� ��Warren for 14 years was Chaplain for the Lebo American Legion Post #323. He held membership in Fishermen's Club, the Minister's Council and was Pastor Emeritus at the First Baptist Church of Waverly, KS where he served as a deacon.���� ��He was known for handing out Tootsie Rolls to children after church services if they would shake his hand. Tootsie Roll Industries of Chicago honored Warren in 1996 by naming him an "Ambassador of Goodwill".�� Warren was always interested in the work of the gospel, church hymns, cars, movies, television, travel, biographies, and history. After retiring he enjoyed relaxing around the home with occasional travels. Grandkids enjoyed hearing stories told by Grandpa about his childhood, sitting with him to read a book or watch Tom and Jerry cartoons, and Grandpa's sneaking them treats from his store-bought goodie stash. ��He was preceded in death by his parents.���� He is survived by his wife Ida;�� Brother Roland Wilson of Creston, IA; Sister Myrna Wilson of Bedford, IA; Son Steve Wilson and wife Kandy of Owatonna, MN; Daughter Lisa Wilson-Raw, husband Ron of Lawson, MO and children Josh and Ashley and her family. Son David Wilson and children Logan and Meredith of Lawrence, KS; Son Dr. Daniel Wilson and Jenny, and their children Alec, James, and Axel of Linkoping, Sweden; and Daughter Celina Gillespie, husband David and children Madison, Jaxson, and Olivia of Newton, KS ��Warren was a devoted husband, loving father, caring grandfather and friend to many.�� He was a man of integrity, a provider, and touched many souls.�� He will be greatly and dearly missed.�� �� ��Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 1 in the First Baptist Church of Waverly, KS followed by a lunch at the Waverly Community Center. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Lincoln Cemetery, Lebo, KS.�� Memorial gifts can be sent to VanArsdale Funeral Home.
