Paul “Bruce” Meyer, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at his home in Madison.
He was born August 12, 1926 in Lincoln , Nebraska the son of Herman H. and Ruth Mussetter Meyer.
Bruce proudly served in the United States Navy from August 11, 1944 until receiving a honorable discharge on July 2, 1946. He began working in the oil fields as a young man, working his way up until becoming a Oil Well Promoter. He owned and operated a Texaco Station in Coffeyville and later went to work at the power plant at Emporia State University. Bruce retired from the Power Plant with 25 years of service at the age of 85.
He was joined in marriage to Mildred Amelia Spradlin on September 20, 1948 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They moved to Madison in 1962. Mildred would precede Bruce in death on March 27, 2005. He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Meyer on February 2, 2008; a great-grandson, Brayson Butter on August 25, 2014; a sister, Celeste Turner and a brother, Clair “Bun” Meyer.
He will live on in the hearts of his sons, John Meyer of Madison and Dennis Meyer and his wife Susan of Emporia; daughter-in-law, Terri Meyer of Madison; sister, Audrey Whitney; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Cremation is planned with a memorial service being held at a date to be announced later. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lamont Wesleyan Church and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home at P.O. Box #488, Madison, Kansas 66860.
