Mary C. Reid, 86. passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019, at Osage City Nursing Center in Osage City. She was born on February 1, 1933, in Portageville, Missouri, the daughter of George Washington (“Cap”) Stewart and Etta Lucy (Hart) Stewart. Mary graduated from City of St. Louis High School in 1951. She married Mirl Qualls in 1951and they moved to Bushong, Kansas and finally ended up in Barclay. They had four children. Later they divorced. She then married Wallace Reid of Osage City. He preceded her in death. They had one son. Mary was a hairdresser for 36 years and most of that time was in her own shop, Mary’s Beauty Salon, in Osage City. She was an active member of the Osage City Baptist Temple in Osage City. Her family was the love of her life and she is survived by her children, Pam (Tom) Morrissey, Raleigh, North Carolina, Debbie (David) Tidd, Osage City, Kansas; Rick (Carol) Qualls, Macksville, Kansas and David (Rebecca) Reid, Overland Park, Kansas; her grandchildren: Ryan (Katie) Morrissey, Aurora, Colorado and Ashley (Chris Ketch) Qualls, New Braunfels, Texas, Jennifer Dangerfield, Burlingame, Kansas; her great grandchildren, Callena Qualls, Maylee Ketch, Allison Ketch and Patrick Morrissey as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, “Cap” Stewart and mother, Etta Freshour; her brothers, Lloyd Stewart and Eugene Stewart and two sisters, Virginia walker and Irene Stewart, and her son, Jerry Qualls. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Countryside Baptist Church in Osage City. Burial will follow services at Osage City Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Heizer American Legion Post #198 and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. 6th Street, Osage City, Kansas 66523.
