MARY C. HILDING

OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS- Mary C. Hilding, 78, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at Lakeview Care Center in Lenexa, Kansas.

Mary Carlene Hilding was born October 19, 1937 in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Carl Ephraim and Myrtle Grace (Powell) Hilding. Her early childhood was spent on the family farm 5 miles northwest of Osage City and then later with parents to southwest edge of Osage City. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1955. Later received a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State University in 1958 and Master's Degree from Emporia State University in 1964.

She was an elementary school teacher for 34 years, with schools in Kansas City, KS, Topeka, KS, Boone, IA and Shawnee Misson, KS. Mary retired from teaching in May of 1992 and lived in Overland Park, KS.

Before and after retirement, Mary was an avid traveler visiting many countries throughout the world. She helped deliver Meals on Wheels and was a member of Village Presbyterian Church in Overland Park.

Mary will be remember by her sisters, Carolyn (Walt) Hauenstein of Garden Grove, CA and Anne (Harold) Severance of Concordia, KS; three nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Cheryl (Hauenstein)Seiler.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City, Kansas. Family will receive friends an hour before service.
