Margie Marie Mersmann

Margie Marie Mersmann, 87, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab in Baldwin City.

Margie Marie Nichols was born April 13, 1936 near Kincaid, Kansas, the daughter of Harold Ernest and Esther Jane (Thompson) Nichols. She graduated Welda High School in Welda, Kansas in 1954. She later went back to school and received a B.A. in Education from Washburn University in 1985.

She was joined in marriage to Frank Charles Mersmann on May 4, 1957 at the Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa, Kansas.

Margie was a much loved teacher at Overbrook Middle School many years. After retirement she continued to substitute teach all over Osage County, touching the lives of countless students.

She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Osage City and the Altar Society.

Margie is survived by her husband, Frank of Osage City; a daughter, Christina (Tom) Flyntz of Scranton; four sons, Patrick (Laurie) Mersmann of Scranton, Douglas (Denise) Mersmann of Olathe, Roger Mersmann of Osage City and Scott (Tina) Mersmann of Baldwin City; a sister, Barbara (Bob) Jellison of Hutchison; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Osage City. Rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. with visitation from 7-8:00 p.m. at the church. Burial to follow mass Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Osage City. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and sent in care of VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. Sixth, Osage City, KS 66523.
