Lucille Mary Hess, 97, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Emporia, Kansas.She was born on October 31, 1921, in rural Lyon County four miles northeast of Madison, Kansas, the third child of ten born to Emil and Anna (Conrade) Jeck. She attended Rock Valley rural school.Lucille was united in marriage to Clair Hess on August 25, 1942 at the Chase County Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls, KS. They lived and raised their family on the family farm 4 ½ miles southwest of Madison, Kansas.Lucille was employed at the Madison Manor as a cook until her retirement. In 2001 she relocated to an apartment in Emporia where she lived until just a year ago, moving to Emporia Place, an assisted living facility. In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, James Hess and Donald Hess; two grandchildren, Chad Hess and Cassie Hess; three brothers; Tony Jeck, who died as a young child, Lawrence Jeck and Leo Jeck; three sisters, Madeline Harlan, Gladys Earnshaw and Mary Cassity. She is survived by three sisters, Teresa Jones, Dorothy Cox and Ann Morris; three sons, David Hess and his wife Connie, Lynn Hess, of Madison, Jerry Hess and his wife Shala, Coldwater, Kansas; her daughter, Cindy Robison and her husband Bob, Emporia; 15 grandchildren, 26 plus 2 more expected great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.Services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Madison at 10:30 AM with burial to follow at Blakely Cemetery, Madison, Kansas.
