Loralie Shackelford, 94, of Osage City, passed away, Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Loralie Oelke was born November 22, 1926 in Topeka, the daughter of Lester and Minnie (Holmes) Oelke.
She married Marion Eugene Freed and later divorced. Loralie later married Robert Shackelford on October 15, 1950 in Kansas City and they moved to Osage City where she raised her children and lived the rest of her life. She had worked in production at Hallmark Cards in Osage City.
Loralie was a member of the Countryside Baptist Church in Osage City. She was well known in the Osage City church and community for her devotion to God, family, and community. She volunteered her time and efforts in many community things, including Boy Scouts Den Mother, Girl Scouts leader, Junior Grange leader, Red Cross CPR teacher, board on the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies, board on the East Central Kansas Agency on Aging, and board on the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature. She belonged to the Motor Maids of America and was very proud of her accomplishments of traveling on her motorcycle through all of North America.
She will be forever remembered by her children, Ronald (Deborah) Freed of El Dorado, Carolyn Norwood of Topeka, Linda (Jim) Hollenbeck of Merriam, Kansas and Wayne Shackelford of Osage City; a brother, Bruce Oelke of Osage City; six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Loralie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents; two grandchildren, Bradley Hollenbeck and Melanie Hollenbeck Kroh; and three brothers, Morton, Phil and Jim Oelke.
A family funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Countryside Baptist Church, 24608 W Highway K170, Osage City. Burial will follow the service at the Osage City Cemetery. A visitation will be held an hour before service at the church. Due to Covid-19, we will be live streaming the service for friends and family on the VanArsdale Funeral Service Facebook page. Memorial contributions may be made to the Osage County Senior Center or Countryside Baptist Church and sent in care of VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. Sixth, Osage City, KS 66523.
