Lila Louise Baker

October 2, 1932 — July 22, 2016

Lila's first birth was celebrated on October 2, 1932 when her parents, Sara Jane (Ogle) & Charles Crable  welcomed her into their loving arms. She enjoyed growing up with two sisters, Elsie Thompson who preceded her in death and Arlene Smith of Delray Beach, Florida. Her brother Charles "Curley" Crable and Robert Crable preceded her in death and Max Crable of Florence, Az will miss her dearly and treasure their memories made together. Her family affectionately called her, "Shorty."

After growing up on a farm in Michigan Valley, KS and attending School at Appanoose, she moved to Topeka where she worked for Southwestern Bell. Lila married Marvin Hummer in 1953 and they had an infant son, Terry Joe Hummer who preceded them both in death in 1956. In 1958, she set out for California where she later met Ernie Baker and they were married at the "Little Chapel Around the Corner" in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 11, 1968. They moved to Osage City, KS in 1987. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2001. Her marriage to Ernie gifted her with  one step daughter, Jill Clark of Flagstaff, Az. and two step sons, Terry Baker of Long Beach, California and Chris Baker of Las Vegas, Nevada. They enjoyed their 4 granddaughters: Alison Baker, Justine Baker, Dawyn Baker, and 1 grandson: Shawn Clark. She also had many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews whom she loved to hear from and visit with.

Lila was known by many for her love for God and others especially those who the world would overlook and cast aside. In 1971, she invited Jesus to be her Lord & Savior after experiencing the San Fernando earthquake. Later that same year, she credits God with putting out her last cigarette and helping her to give them up for good. Miss Lila was a spiritual mother to many and an inspirational intercessor praying for both young and old alike to know Jesus and allow Him to bring breakthrough into their lives. Her life has left a great impact & legacy for generations to come.

Her gift of hospitality kept the candy dish always full, a box of Kleenex at the ready, and her heart and arms open to love whomever God put in her path for that day including 2 young men whom she sponsored as Foreign Exchange Students Paschal and Simon who remember her fondly.  She served as a volunteer for Midland Hospice out of Topeka.

Lila loved to travel with her best friend Casey Regenold . Her favorite trip they took together was a trip to Israel- walking where Jesus had spent His earthly years.

Mama Lila was a faithful servant of Jesus and a member of Twin Lakes Foursquare Church where she met her two adopted daughters, Karen Green and Teresa Talkington who lovingly cared for her to her last breath on earth which gave birth to her eternal reward and entrance into the Kingdom of God.
