Leonard R Torrens

Leonard Ray Torrens, a life-long resident of Emporia, KS, passed away on October 11, 2024 at the age of 74. Leonard was born in Emporia, on October 26, 1949 to parents Marion F. and Barbara (Jones) Torrens.

After winning several medals for wrestling, Leonard's educational journey culminated in 1967 when he graduated from Emporia High School. In 1969, he took a pivotal step and enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably until 1973. Following his military service, Leonard began a fulfilling career with the Santa Fe Railroad, working as a switchman in the Emporia railroad yard from 1973 until an injury interrupted his work.

Leonard enjoyed a wealth of fond memories throughout his life, particularly those spent hunting and fishing alongside his brother, Dennis. He continued to enjoy these hobbies throughout his life. 

Leonard is survived by his son, Lucas Torrens (Hope); brothers, Dennis Torrens (Peggy) of Berryton, KS, Marlan Torrens (Amanda) of Emporia, KS, and Walt Burkhart of Baldwin, KS; sisters, Sheila Palmer (Ron) of Cashion, OK, Denise Hughes (Kirby) of Olathe, KS, and Michelle Reed (Chris) of Edgerton, KS. Leonard also holds the treasured role of grandfather to one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion F. Torrens and Barbara (Jones) Torrens Burkhart, as well as his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Effie Torrens.

A graveside service to honor Leonard's life will be held on October 24, 2024, 1:00 PM, at Chicago Mound Cemetery in Neosho Rapids, KS. in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital sent c/o Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 43, Lebo, KS 66856.
