Laure Edna Eastman

LAURA E. EASTMAN ESKRIDGE- Laura E. Eastman, 87, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Rolling Hills Health Center in Topeka. Laura Edna Freerksen was born November 15, 1927 in Lebo, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Edna (Park) Freerksen. She graduated from Lebo High School in 1946. �� ��She had worked for the Department of Labor and also as a cook at the Eskridge Grade School. She was noted for her good food. She was joined in marriage to Willard "Wid" Carson Knight in 1946. Wid and Laura lived in Lebo and had a son, Kenneth. The family moved to Eskridge. Wid preceded her in death on April 19, 1961. She later married Robert "Bob" E. Eastman on January 8, 1962. They lived on the farm and had a daughter, Toni in 1965. Bob died in 1988. �� She was a member of the United Church of Eskridge, American Legion Auxillary and had served as Boy Scout Pack 149 Den Mother. Laura will be remembered by her daughter, Toni (Elvan) Van Meter of Eskridge; a son, Kenneth W. (Susan) Knight of Eskridge; a sister, Veda Sliter of Lebo; four brothers, Fred (Barb) Freerksen of Neosho Rapids, KS, Johy Myrle Freerksen of Melvern, Glen (Julie) Freerksen of Omaha, Nebraska and Nelson Dean (Jane Dix) Freerksen of Perry, KS; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Freerksen of Denver, CO; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Earl Freerksen and a brother-in-law, Jerry Sliter. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the United Church of Eskridge in Eskridge, Kansas. Visitation is Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Eskridge. Burial to follow service at Eskridge Cemetery.
