Laura Jean Schwindt, 97, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Newman Regional Health. She was born October 25, 1920 in Englewood, Kansas the daughter of George and Myrtle Sherman Brewer. Jean attended District 17 Rural School as a child and would later graduate from Hartford High School with the Class of 1939. Jean was joined in marriage to Edward H. Schwindt on November 30, 1943 in Emporia. They would briefly live west of Olpe before making their home southwest of Hartford on the family farm. They worked together on the farm until Ed preceded her in death on July 2, 1980. Jean held memberships at the Hartford Christian Church and the Eagle Creek Extension Unit. She will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Helen “Diane” Schwindt and her companion Don Clawson of Hartford and Sandra Somerhalder and her husband Sam of Hartford; grandchildren, Synthia Larson and her husband Chris, Chris Somerhalder and Samuel John Somerhalder, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Regan and Gannon Somerhalder. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Brewer and Helen Needels. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Olpe United Methodist Church. Burial will follow services at Hartford Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church and sent in care of the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home of Lebo. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
