Larry Owen Reed

Larry Owen Reed, 76 , passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Flint Hills Health Care in Emporia.
He was born on January 24, 1940 in Los Angeles, California the son of Leo and Mabel Shirley Reed.
Larry attended Madison High School and graduated with the Class of 1958. In the years following graduation he worked as a surveyor for the construction of watersheds throughout the Verdigris Valley.
He was joined in marriage to the love of his life Sharon Sue Selvy on February 18, 1961 in the First Christian Church of Madison. They worked side by side for forty five years as owners and operators of Dairy Queen. Their last thirty years were spent at the West 6th Street location in Emporia. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in February of 2011. Sharon preceded Larry in death on August 15, of that same year.

Larry held a great love for the Flint Hills and was an avid defender of the wildlife within them.

He will live on in the hearts of his children, Kris Redeker and her husband Ronnie of Olpe and Russell Reed and his wife Francie of rural Madison; grandchildren, Parker and Taylor Redeker, Owen, Josie and Jessica Reed; great-grandson, Jax; sister Diane Haag of Topeka, as well as extended family and dear friends.

Mr. Reed’s wishes were to be cremated with private family services to be held at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home at P.O. Box #488, Madison, Kansas 66860.
