LARRY "DOC" HOLLIDAY OSAGE CITY -- Larry "Doc" Holliday, 73 , formerly of Vassar, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at his home in Burlington, Kansas. Larry Lynn Holliday was born September 11, 1941 in Cherryvale, Kansas, son of Harold and Fae (Whitcomb) Holliday. He attended school at Cherryvale and graduated high school in 1959. He married Mary Joleen Newland of Parsons on May 30, 1960 in Cherryvale. She preceded him on February 2, 2009. On June 22, 2014, he married Elaine (Houser) Birk in New Strawn, Kansas. Larry had served two years in the Army National Guard. His early years were spent working for his father in the grocery business. Later sold Prudential insurance for 17 years. He had owned three laundry mats and had developed the western half of Kansas for the Rug Doctor Cleaning Company. He had also did mobile notary work for 14 years. Larry was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and attained the 32 degree Master Mason Level. Larry and his family moved to Great Bend, Kansas in 1977. After living there for over 20 years, upon retirement, he moved to Lake Pomona, south of Topeka. In 2014, he moved to Burlington. Larry will be remembered by his wife Nancy Elaine Birk Holliday of the home; a son, Larry L. Holliday, Jr. of Hoisington, Kansas; a daughter, Janet Rene` Holliday and Ginger Wallace of Maryland; a step-son, Matt (Candice) Seaman of Waverly; three grandchildren, Timothy Craig Holliday, Larry (Trey) Holliday and Kirstin Holliday, all of Salina, a step-grandchild Eli Seaman of Waverly and one great-grandchild, Josalyn Quesenbury of Great Bend, Kansas. He was also preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson, Parker Lee Holliday; a sister, Phyllis J. Sutton and a brother, Harold J. Holliday. Graveside service was held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Vassar Cemetery in Vassar. The family will be receiving friend from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. before service at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City. Larry requested in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Coffey County Cancer Society and sent in care of VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. Sixth, Osage City, Kansas 66523.
