Larry J. Germann, 85, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Holiday Resort in Emporia.
Larry Joseph Germann was born October 21, 1938 in Hartford, a son of 15 children to Theodore and Vera Lee (Whitehurst) Germann. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1957. He was a very proud Hartford Redskin.
He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1966. Larry was a proud Veteran.
Larry worked at the Hartford Elevator and Daniels, during the construction of Wolf Creek Power Plant.
He met the love of his life, Dorothy Rempel and were married on September 4, 2004 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2023.
Before marriage, Larry resided in Hartford on the family homestead. One of many things Larry was known for was his wonderful gardens, especially his tomatoes, and was willing to share with everyone in Hartford. He was also known for having the shiniest boots around.
Larry’s kids were his nieces and nephews. He helped raise them and taught them to fish, drive and garden. He Shared a Birthday with 1 of his Great nieces Cassidy Thweatt as she was born on his 60th Birthday. He had only one granddaughter, Jessica who became his granddaughter when he married Dorothy. Larry has bonded with several of his great, great nephews and nieces getting to attend their events. He will be truly missed for his sense of humor and fist bumps and solid handshakes.
He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Hartford and AA in Hutchinson, where he received his 20-year sobriety coin. He loved to attend Alumni Banquets every year.
Larry is survived by his many nieces and nephews; a step-son, Johnny Rempel; a granddaughter, Jessica Elliot; a great-granddaughter, Lily and numerous friends and family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., before service with family receiving friends until service time. Burial to follow mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Grotto and Rosary Garden Project or Hartford Veterans Memorial and sent in care of Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box 43, Lebo, Kansas 66856.
