Larry Ellis Hill, 74, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at his home near Harveyville.
He was born December 29,1945 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Ellis C. and Alice L. Stratton Hill. Larry attended Eskridge Rural High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. Following high school, Larry started farming near Eskridge. He raised livestock as well including cattle and pigs. Larry married Lois Baxter on September 11, 1970 in Eskridge. They had two sons, Darrin and Vance. Larry and Lois would later divorce. As a young man, he took a job hauling cattle for Dwayne Calhoun in Allen. He later drove for D&H in Emporia, Dolly Madison in Emporia and for Frito Lay in Topeka. On December 31, 2013 Larry met A lice Dickson. Over time their bond grew. Alice became the primary care giver for Larry the last several months of his life. He left Frito Lay and established Larry Hill Transportation, hauling cattle and hay. In May of 2015, Larry sold his truck and closed the transportation business. Later that year in December he retired from farming to enjoy time traveling with Alice and his devoted dog Salty. Throughout his life, Larry had been active in the Masonic Lodge in years past and had also been a member of the Flint Hills Gideon Camp for10 years. He had served as the past president of the Eskridge Rural High School Alumni Association and always look forward to reunion time. Larry will live on in the hearts and memories of his sons, Darrin Hill and wife Christina of Lyons, Kansas and Vance Hill and wife Chelsea; his loving companion Alice of their home; grandchildren, Kylie Hill, Wyatt Hill, Colton Hill, Clare Strohm, Hanna Hill, Dylan Hill, Justin Hill, Michela Bofman and great-grandchildren, Lillian Hill and Piper; sisters, Marlene K. Hill Florence and husband Lloyd of Council Grove, Patricia Hill Warren and husband Lloyd; brothers, Kevin Hill and wife Sheila of Alta Vista and Darrell R. Hill; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and dear friends. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Chalk Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M., Friday evening at the VanArsdale Funeral Home in Eskridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon’s Flint Hills Camp or Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home at Box #338, Eskridge, Kansas 66423.
