Larry D. Mccormick

Larry D. McCormick, 73, of Carbondale, passed away late Tuesday January 18, 2022 at Plaza West Care Center in Topeka.
           
            He was born February 21, 1948 in La Crosse, Kansas the son of Charles W. and Louise Erb McCormick. Larry grew up in Rush Center, Kansas and attended La Crosse High School, graduating with the Class of 1966. He would further his education by attending Hutchinson Junior College and Emporia State Teachers College, earning a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1970.
 
            Larry married the love of his life, Donna Mitchell on January 25, 1970. For the first year of their marriage, they lived in Olathe while Larry taught at Shawnee Mission North West and Donna taught at Spring Hill.

They moved to Overbrook for 2 years, before making their home in Carbondale in 1973. Larry taught office education, distributive education, and vocational education at Santa Fe Trail High School. He also shared his skills and vast knowledge of vocational training by teaching the men and women of the Topeka Correctional Facilities. From there, Larry went on to teach computer education at the Kaw Area Vo. Tech School.
           
            Larry was a person always on the go. He kept very active by being involved in school and church activities and projects. One of his greatest delights was to be in the kitchen with his apron and chefs hat on. He catered many school and church dinners. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and helping people solve their computer problems. He enjoyed being with people and helping, teaching, and serving others.  

            Larry and Donna cultivated their faith as members of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Scranton. He was a devoted member of the Knights Of Columbus and the Glory to God Covenant Community.
        
           He will live on in the hearts and memories of his loving wife, Donna McCormick of their home; three sons, Doug McCormick of Carbondale, Ks., Mike McCormick and his fiancée Janelle of Lawrence and Matt McCormick of Lawrence, Ks.; granddaughters, Bria and Paisley McCormick; a brother, Denny McCormick of Timken, Kansas; and numerous extended family and a host of dear friends.
           
          Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M.,  Saturday, January 22, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Scranton. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M., until 10:00 A.M. at the church. The rosary will be recited at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Osage City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus or The St. Patrick’s Church  (Building Fund) and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. 6th Street, Osage City, Kansas 66523.
