L. “Wayne” Bloomfield, 81, of Eskridge, passed away Sunday June 5, 2016 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Wayne was born on February 26, 1935 in Eskridge, Kansas, the son of O.C. and Helen Martin Bloomfield. He was raised on the family farm eight miles north of Eskridge. He attended Eskridge High School and graduated with the Class of 1953.
Wayne was joined in marriage to Gladys Markin at her parent’s home near Eskridge on September 18, 1954. The young couple lived for two years on the family farm before moving to the Topeka Round Up Club. They would make their permanent home in Eskridge in 1956 where he served on the Eskridge Volunteer Fire Department for seventeen years.
After moving to Eskridge, Wayne worked at the State Highway Department at Eskridge for eight years. He would later work at the local Mobile Oil Station where he drove the bulk delivery truck. Wayne drove for Rush Truck Line and later for Leonard Brothers for ten years. He went on to drive a bus for the Eskridge Schools from 1982 until 1997 during which time he mowed yards in and around Eskridge. Wayne’s heart never left the farm. He raised livestock and horses throughout his life and transported cattle throughout Wabaunsee County until six months ago.
Wayne and Gladys were avid square dancers for over 20 years.
He will live on in the hearts of his wife, Gladys of their home; daughters, Nancy Good and her husband Dennis of Council Grove and Nina Imthurn and her husband Dean of Maple Hill; son, Charles Bloomfield and his wife Amy of Eskridge; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Frank and a grandson, Roper Edward Bloomfield.
