Karen was born on May 3, 1956, in Eureka, Kansas, to Gerald Wayne and Bonnie Lemoyne Larcom Mitchell. Raised in the picturesque town of Eureka, she attended Eureka High School, where she began to forge the vibrant and engaging personality that would define her life.

Professionally, Karen made her mark as a dedicated camera operator, first at Eureka Downs and later at Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana. Her work in this field showcased not only her commitment but also her passion for capturing moments that matter.

An avid outdoorswoman, Karen found joy and solace in nature, particularly at Eureka Lake, where fishing and relaxation became cherished pastimes. A self-proclaimed shopaholic, she embraced life’s simple pleasures with enthusiasm. Her love for animals was profound; she devoted time to nurturing young deer, raccoons, bobcats, and possums while working with a state animal rescue program, embodying a spirit of compassion and care.

Karen is remembered by her family as an outgoing and fun-loving individual who brought joy to those around her. She will live on in the hearts and treasured memories of her daughter, Rebecca Crawford of Emporia, Kansas; brothers, Danny, Derald, and Tim Mitchell; and her beloved grandchildren Nathan, Devin, Dalton, and Marieca; as well as great-grandchildren Regan, Liam, Kenzy, Jackson, Bentley, Meilah, Elayna, Sampson, Trinity, Madilynn, Troy, Hayzel, Kade, Winston, and Libby.

Her indomitable spirit and zest for life will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
