John H. “Jack” Backerman, 61, passed away Tuesday, April 24th at the University of Kansas St. Francis Campus.
He was born September 6, 1956 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of James Sr. and Faye Meinders Backman.
His family moved to the Dover area in 1962. Shortly after relocating, Jack’s mother passed away in 1964. Jack attended Mission Valley High School and graduated with the Class of 1974. Following high school he worked as a grounds keeper at Washburn University for over five years.
Health issues early on in his adult life made employment inoperative for Jack. He would live out his adult life in Topeka.
He will live on in the hearts of his sisters, Beverly Shaw of Las Vegas, Janice Bixby of Silver Lake, JoAnn Zeason of Las Vegas, Sharon Richards of Topeka and Karen Taylor of Topeka; brothers James Backerman Jr. of Topeka and Robert Backerman of Topeka.
Inurnment will take place at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 2nd at Eskridge Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
