Jimmie Eldon Cress,78, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018, on the way to his home from Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
He was born September 9, 1939 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Jimmie Boten and Zatha Ferol (Henricks) Cress. He grew up in Florence, Kansas and graduated from Florence Memorial High School in 1957. He served in the United States Air Force. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business and a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Emporia State University.
He met the love his life, Joyce Ann Jones, dancing at Estes Park in Colorado. They were joined in marriage on June 30, 1965 in Aurora, Colorado. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2018.
Jim was a real estate agent, broker and appraiser. He and his wife, Joyce, owned and operated Cress Real Estate and Appraisal Service.
He will be forever remembered by his son, Bill (Janu) Cress of Greenwood, Missouri; a daughter, Stacy Wescott of Shawnee, Kansas; a sister, Jeanice (Kenny) Miller of Emporia; a brother, Lynn (Lisa) Cress of Rogers, Arkansas and four grandchildren, Jeneca and Nolan Cress of Greenwood, Missouri and Aubrey and Ashton Wescott of Shawnee, Kansas ... along with many, many family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Everett Cress.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Emporia. Family will receive friends Friday evening, August 17, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the church. Cremation will take place after service. A military graveside service and inurnment for Jim and Joyce will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Joyce Cress Memorial Fund and sent in care of Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box 43, Lebo, KS 66856.
