Howard Marvin Schlesener, 84, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at his home near Reading. ��He was born October 29, 1930 in Bushong, Kansas the son of Marvin and Marie Chalker Schlesener. ��Howard was raised in north Lyon County and joined the United States Air Force as a young man. His service as an engineer took him throughout the United States and the world including three years in Japan. He served one tour of duty during the Vietnam War. During his twenty years in the Air Force he met the love of his life, Lois May Lyons. They were forever joined in marriage on April 13, 1954 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. ��After the service Howard continued his craft of carpentry while working at Broadmore Mobile Homes in Emporia. He retired as a superintendent from George Groh and Sons after twenty five years of service. Howard continued construction work, remodeling homes in and around Reading with his son Kenneth until 2010. ��He will remain in the hearts of his wife, Lois May of their home; daughters Lois Marie (Tracey) Stice of Alta Vista and Joyce Miller of Manhattan; sons, Kenneth (Deb) Schlesener of Reading, Wayne Schlesener of Hebron, Nebraska and James Schlesener of Wheatland, Missouri; sisters, Cordelia Seeley of Reading, Ruthy Holcomb of Neosho Rapids, Velma Jean Fowler of Emporia, Barbara Crull of Arkansas City and Marylou Blackley of Newkirk, Oklahoma; brothers, Donald Schlesener of Reading and Calvin Schlesener of Auburn; fifteen grandchildren and thirty eight great-grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by a son, Robert and a brother, Kenneth Lee. ��Graveside services will be held at 3:30 PM., Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Phillips Cemetery northwest of Reading. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM., until 7:30 PM., Wednesday evening at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Friends of the Zoo and sent in care of the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home.
