Mr. Glen E. Succi, a beloved member of the Burlingame, Kansas community, passed away on July 28, 2024 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka,. He was born on June 6, 1930, in Burlingame, Kansas, the son of Gillio and Edith Vandervord Succi
Glen led a remarkable life filled with dedication and hard work. After graduating from Burlingame High School with the Class of 1949, he went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. His military service began March 6, 1952, and he received an honorable discharge on March 5, 1954. Glen's commitment to service extended beyond his military duties as he became a member of the Robert Heizer American Legion Post in Osage City.
Following his time in the military, he purchased a farm north of Burlingame where he worked tirelessly while also holding a position as a purchasing clerk at the Santa Fe Railroad. His dedication to both farming and his job at the railroad was truly commendable, and in 1982, he was recognized for his hard work with a soil conservation award. Glen retired from the railroad in October of 1991.
Glen was married to Lois M. Hoppe in September of 1959. They would raise four children together but ultimately they would later divorce. He married Dora Arline Bateman in October 1991. They enjoyed over twenty years together until her passing on February 1, 2013.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Glen had a deep love for his family and an array of hobbies that brought him joy. He was immensely proud of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Glen found relaxation and pleasure in activities such as bowling, fishing, gardening, camping, playing cards, and dancing. A devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas State teams, he also enjoyed cheering them on during games.
Glen will be remembered not only for his work ethic and love for family but also for his kind and friendly nature that endeared him to all who knew him. He leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of his surviving family: Cynthia Gilstrap (Jeff), Alan Succi, Jolene Miller (Rick), Connie Gowin (Greg),Craig Bateman (Donna), twelve grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on August 2, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. 6th Street in Osage City, Kansas. A graveside service will follow at Burlingame Cemetery on South Burlingame Road at 11:30 AM.
Glen's memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy lives on through his family and all those whose lives he touched with his kindness and dedication.
