George E. Benteman, 85, passed away Thursday January 20, 2022 at his home in Auburn, Kansas.
He was born on April 17, 1936 in Frankfort, Kansas the son of Fritz and Erma Kipp Benteman.
George joined the United States Air Force on August 27, 1954 and proudly served his country until receiving an honorable discharge on August 3, 1958.
He married Josephine Dowd in 1959 they later divorced in 1965. He married Karen Lee Young on June 29, 1973 and they remained together until her death on July 31, 2014.
During the 1960’s, George worked for Harding Glass Company. He would later complete over thirty years of service with Goodyear where he made earthmover tires and also worked in the lab.
In the past George lived in Eskridge before making his home in Auburn nearly 15 years ago.
He took great pride in his cars and motorcycles. His other interest included assembling model cars, drawing cars and watching old movies when he was not working crossword puzzles. He was a devoted family man and cherished his close friends.
George will live on in the hearts and memories of his daughter, Vicki Jo Bennett and husband Shane of Silver Lake; sons, Travis Edward Benteman and wife Valerie of Topeka, Darcy Lee Benteman of Auburn and Cody Kipp Benteman of Auburn; two sisters, Mabel Beem of Marion, Iowa and Martha Mullins of Ieager, West Virginia; a brother, Milton, Benteman of Topeka; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee, Fritz, Norman, Frank, Jimmy and Joe; sisters, Susie, Erma, Bertha and Florence.
