Dorothy R. Kramer, 92, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia.

She was born September 27, 1924 in Wakeeney, Kansas the daughter of George and Frieda Schneck Schemm.

Dorothy attended Neosho Rapids High School and graduated with the Class of 1943. After high school she worked as a waitress at the Transport Inn in Emporia. She was later employed as the assistant manager at Peter Pan as well as keeping the books at Schemm & Kramer Oil Company in Emporia.

Dorothy was joined in marriage to Floyd Vernon Kramer on June 21, 1949 in Emporia. The young couple spent the early years of marriage living in Emporia, Johnson County and Lebo before moving back to Emporia in 1962. They lived on a farm west of Emporia from 1968 until 1972. They settled on their current farm north of Neosho Rapids in 1972.

She will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Susan Menke and her husband Thomas of Neosho Rapids and Sarah Jones of Tucson, Arizona; a son, Gary Kramer and his wife Judy of Eugene Oregon; five grandchildren; Jeremy Kramer, Tony Menke, Melissa Carson, Jonathan Jones and Craig Menke; eleven great-grandchildren, Leo Sheley, Quoyle Kramer, Carson Menke, Caleb Carson, Emily Carson, Alex Menke, Cohen Menke, Kate Menke, Clementine Kramer, Brooklyn Carson and Cash Menke. She was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Floyd Kramer on February 9, 2004; three brothers, Raymond, Ralph and Arnold Schemm; a sister, Gertrude Ashcraft.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M., Tuesday evening at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church and sent in care of the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
