Dorothy Lavone Mackey

Dorothy Lavone Mackey, 83. passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Holiday Resort. She was born January 30, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Orville and Loreta Waddell Spaeth. Dorothy attended Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated with the Class of 1952. She was joined in marriage to William Robert Mackey on May 24, 1953 in Huntsville, Arkansas. The young couple started their lives together living in the Kansas City area. They would later make their home in Madison, Kansas in 1956. Dorothy was a proud homemaker and played in a Women’s League Softball while her children were young. She had served as Girl Scout , Boy Scout  and 4-H leader teaching cooking, sewing and gardening. Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church in Madison and had served as Deacon and Secretary. Dorothy will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Lavone Johnson and her husband Fred of Emporia; sons, Bill Mackey of Topeka and Jim Mackey and his wife Mary of Kansas City, Kansas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous extended family and dear friends. She  was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over 50 years, Bob Mackey and a sister Genny Hobbs.  Reverend Bob Robison will conduct services at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 7th at the First Christian Church in Madison. Burial will follow services at Blakely Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M., Wednesday evening at the Church.
