Doris Elaine Pugh Cheever, 91, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Newman Hospital in Emporia. Doris Elaine Pugh Cheever the daughter of Homer Pugh and Joanna Sherman Pugh was born March 4, 1923 in Quincy Township, Greenwood County, Kansas. She grew up in the Hamilton and Quincy area and moved to Madison in 1950. She graduated from Quincy High School in 1941 and attended Wichita Business College. She was united in marriage with Forrest Cleveland Cheever on August 16, 1941. For many years she worked as secretary to their family owned business. She was a volunteer in Girl Scouting. She was a member of the Hamilton Methodist Church and later the Methodist Church in Quincy. She was a life member of Miriam Chapter #14 Order of the Eastern Star and formerly a member of Madison Star Chapter #350 in Madison. Other memberships included the Mothers Council and the American Legion Auxillary. Doris is survived by her husband Forrest of the home; three children, Peggy Loy Cheever Spinski of Brookings, SD, Joyce Leann Cheever McGill Chambers of Burlington, Kansas and William Forrest Cheever of Olpe, Kansas; two grandchildren, Brenda Jo McGill Muha and David Wayne McGill; numerous great-grandchildren; two half brothers, Leonard H. Pugh and Gary L. Pugh both of Eureka, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Daryl S. Pugh and Leslie W. Pugh; sister, Alice A. Pugh Barnard and a half brother, Ronald W. Pugh.
