Doris E. Freund

Doris Freund, 91, passed away early Saturday morning at the Sunset Manor in Waverly. She was born April 8, 1923 in Waverly, the daughter of Earl J. and Ella A. Huseman Bennett. Doris attended Burlington High School and graduated with the Class of 1941. She furthered her education by receiving a teaching certificate from the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. Doris went on to teach in one room school houses throughout Coffey County during the 1940's and early 1950's. Doris was joined in marriage to Eugene F. Freund on February 16, 1947 in Emporia, Kansas. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Lebo and together made their home until Eugene's death on September 29, 1993. Doris remained in their home until moving to Waverly in early 2007. She was a member of the Lebo Baptist Church and had previously served on the Coffey County Library Board during the construction of the Lebo Library. Doris will forever be loved by her two sons, Galen D. Freund of Lebo and Alan E. (Denelle) Freund of Oakton, Virginia.; three granddaughters, Courtney Ho, Hillary Freund and Meredith Freund; two great-granddaughters, Jayden and Arya Ho. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother Malcolm Bennett.
