OSAGE CITY- Cora Mae Briggs, 94, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas. She went peacefully home to the Lord surrounded by her family.
Cora Mae Regnier was born November 24, 1924 in Offerle, Kansas, the daughter of Peter and Martha (Burkhart) Regnier. She graduated from St. Teresa Catholic High School in Hutchinson.
She was joined in marriage to Charles Alvin Briggs on May 26, 1951 in Hodgeman County, Kansas. Four sons and four daughters were born from this union.
She was a devoted wife to her husband and a loving mother to her eight children.
Cora Mae was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Osage City, Kansas. She was a homemaker for twenty years before working at Hallmark Cards for fifteen. In retirement, Cora Mae enjoyed traveling with her husband, volunteering for her church and community, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Cora Mae will be forever remembered by her eight children: Jim (Mary) Briggs of Baldwin City; Gary Briggs of Osage City; Tom (Parniece) Briggs of Madill, Oklahoma; Jeannie (Bryan) Caswell of Olathe; Janice (Bruce) Turner of Eudora; Mike (Kathy) Briggs of Smithville, Missouri; Judy (Kevin) Hiskey of Lenexa; and Janie Warren of Wamego; eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Other survivors include her two sisters-in-law, Arlene Peters and Norma Jean Harper, both of Topeka, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and a sister
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Osage City. Mrs. Briggs will lie in state from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 24 at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. 6th St., Osage City, Kansas. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 24 at the church. Family will receive friends after the rosary at 7:30 p.m. in the church hall. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Altar Society and sent in care of VanArsdale Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be expressed at Vanarsdalefs.com.
