Clarence Curtis Van Arsdale, 83, passed away early Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at his home in Madison.
He was born on March 16, 1939 in Gridley, Kansas the son of Clarence Melvin and Alice Elizabeth Sleezer Van Arsdale.. Curtis attend Gridley High School and graduated with the Class of 1957.
Following graduation, he took a job as a telegraph apprentice with the railroad in Benedict, Kansas. In 1958 he embarked on a lifelong career in the oil fields. He began working on his father’s crew learning the business from the ground up. On January 1, 1969 he became co-owner of Van Arsdale Well Service. After his father retired, Curtis continued on as the sole owner and operator until his own retirement in the mid 1990’s.
On January 5, 1958 in Gridley, Kansas he married the love of his life, Donna Lee Binns. They began their lives together first living in Fredonia, Gridley and later Eureka. They have called Madison, Kansas home since1964 and have been in their current home since 1976.
Curtis was a member of the Gridley Christian Church. His other memberships included the Madison Masonic Lodge #196. He and Donna were both members in the Eastern Star White Rose Chapter #297. Curtis served the Madison Lodge for many years as an officer in all positions including Past Master. Curtis was later appointed to the Grand Lodge of Kansas and filled the office of Grand Tyler. He held the honor of being the Grand Representative between the Kansas Grand Lodge and the Grand Lodge of Spain.
He will live on in the hearts and memories of his wife, Donna of their home; daughters, Cindy Novinger and her husband Alan of Burlington, Linda Nordeen and her husband Roger of Olathe and Deann Parks and her husband Gary of Richmond; a sister, Wilma Hess of Madison; a brother, Lonnie Van Arsdale and his wife Shirley of Gardner; grandchildren, Laura (Matt) Spann, Bradie Brown, Sydney (Chase) Harder, Sarah Nordeen and Garrison Parks; great-grandchildren, Denver Brown and Hunter Harder; numerous extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Sharon K. Van Arsdale, Erica A. Binns and Betty M. Haas; brothers-in-law, Ralph C. Binns Jr., Dale E. Hess, William A.Binns, Robert E. Haas; a nephew, Scott A. Van Arsdale; his mother-in law, Goldie Binns; father-in-law, Ralph Binns.
Curtis requested that he be cremated and that the family gather privately together to inurn his ashes at Teachout Cemetery northeast of Gridley. Memorial contributions may be made to Hand-In-Hand Hospice or The Kansas Masonic Home and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box #488, Madison, Kansas 66860.
