Charles Eugene “Chuck” Walquist was born on May 3, 1956, in Emporia, Kansas, to Lawrence and Mary Marcella Walquist. He grew up on the family farm near Osage City, Kansas, alongside his beloved sister, Anita.
Chuck attended Osage City Elementary and High School, excelling academically as an honor roll student. A proud member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), he served as the chapter president, demonstrating his passion for agriculture and leadership. After graduating in 1974, Chuck began his lifelong connection to farming by working at Pearson Farm and Ranch.
Chuck married Cathy Martin, and together they welcomed three children: Cory, Crystal, and Casey. For several years, Chuck cherished raising his children on the family farm, instilling in them his love for the land and hard work. After he and Cathy divorced, Chuck remained on the farm with his daughter, Crystal, until 1995, when they moved into Osage City.
After dedicating 27 years to Pearson Farm and Ranch, Chuck retired but continued to explore new opportunities. He opened a restaurant, pursued various ventures, and ultimately returned to work with the Pearson family at Miller Elevator, where he remained employed until his passing.
Chuck was a man of many talents and passions. A proud member of the Kansas Barbecue Association, he earned numerous awards in competitions across the state and became a certified barbecue judge. Chuck was also an active member of the Osage City Eagles Club, where he served as Chaplain and supported the community.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mary Marcella Walquist, and his son, Cory Walquist. He is survived by his sister, Anita Brewer of North Carolina; his daughters, Crystal Walquist of Burlingame, Kansas, and Casey Karnes and her husband, Aaron Karnes, of Osage City, Kansas bonus daughters, Emily and Kelly Hurla of Osage City, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Laura Walquist of Osage City.
He was a proud grandfather to Brayden McDowell of Topeka, Kansas; Seth Karnes, Madison Karnes of Osage City, Kansas; and Caden Walquist of Osage City, Kansas and great-grandchild, William Karnes. Chuck will be remembered for his generous heart and love for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the memories he created with loved ones.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in Osage City. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3890 of Osage City.
