Bill Estes, 86, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his home south of Osage City. He was born Billy Dale Estes on May 29, 1928 near Admire, Kansas, the son of Frank and Florence Lewis Estes. Bill attended Admire High School and graduated with the Class of 1945. Bill was inducted into the United States Army on November 28, 1950, and proudly served until being honorably discharged on November 27, 1952. He attended the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington in the spring of 2013. He was joined in marriage to Mary Lou Hendrickson on September 5, 1953, at the Osage City Methodist Church. They were awarded the title of Mr. and Mrs. Osage City in 2003, and hosted nine exchange students at their home over the course of several years. Bill worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka, Kansas and Union City, Tennessee until his retirement in 1983. He continued to farm and raise cattle in the Osage City area. Bill was a member of Robert Heizer American Legion Post #198 of Osage City and had served on the Rural Water District 7, Osage County Fire District #2 Board, as well as the Barclay Township Board. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Lou of their home; a daughter, Glenda Estes of Emporia; two sons, Rich (Nancy) Estes of Osage City and Ron (Susan) Estes of Wichita; a sister, Betty Gross of Roswell, New Mexico; a brother, Don (Arlene) Estes of Palm Coast, Florida; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Tomlinson Newkirk. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Osage County Fire District #2, The Osage City United Methodist Church or the Robert Heizer American Legion Post #198.
