Wilma Corene Fankhauser, 90, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Newman Hospital in Emporia.
Wilma Corene Greenwood was born on September 7, 1927 in Madison, Kansas the daughter of Leonard W. and Kittie C. Aughinbaugh Greenwood.
Wilma attended Madison High School and graduated with the Class of 1945. The first year following graduation Wilma worked as a secretary at UMB Bank in Kansas City, Missouri. She later worked for a year as a clerical secretary for a Wichita, Kansas Bank.
She was joined in marriage to Harold F. Fankhauser on August 29, 1947 in Madison, Kansas. Wilma and Harold made their home on a farm six miles southeast of Madison. They enjoyed over 58 years together. Her loving husband Harold preceded her in death on January 18, 2006.
Wilma’s many memberships included the First Presbyterian Church of Madison, the P.E.O., the Garden Club, Kansas Cattlewomen as well as being a charter member of the Civic Culture Club.
Wilma will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Cindy Raber and Nancy Fankhauser, both of Madison; a son, Tony Fankhauser of Madison; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; several extended family and a host of dear friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Turner and Vivian Bridges as well as her brother, Tom Greenwood.
A celebration of Wilma’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Frist Presbyterian Church in Madison. Reverend Bob Robison will conduct the service. Following services, she will join her husband at Number Eight Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. at the Church. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Madison Educational Assistance Fund and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home at P.O. Box #488, Madison, Kansas 66860.
