James Newton Garrison, 90 of Eureka, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday November 17, 2017 at the Greenwood County Hospital.
He was born June 16, 1927 in Beaumont, Kansas the son of Harry G. and Elizabeth Foley Garrison. His mother died shortly after his fifth birthday. He spent the next four years living with assorted relatives until his father remarried.
James attended school in Wichita, El Dorado as well as Greenwood and Woodson Counties. At the end of his junior year in high school he was drafted into the United States Army. James proudly served in France and Belgium and was honorably discharged in 1947.
James married the love of his life, Rosalie Hollis on June 29, 1948 in Eureka, They raised five children and cared for two nieces and two nephews for different lengths of time. James and Rosalie were faithful members of the Christ Lutheran Church in Eureka.
James worked as a oil field pumper for 43 years before he finally retired. He also worked for various ranchers throughout the area and as a school janitor.
He will live on in the hearts of his wife, Rosalie of their home in Eureka; daughters, Lucinda Elaine Beck of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Rebecca Susan Buckle and her husband Rick of Kiowa, Kansas; sons, Charles Newton Garrison of El Dorado, Ks., David Jay Garrison of Reading, Kansas, and Joseph Steven Garrison of Overland Park, Kansas; sisters, Laura Ann Shepard of Eufaula, Oklahoma and Cleona Lucile Thornton of Wilburton, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two step grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert Norvelle Garrison, Donald Keith Garrison, Paul Elton Garrison and Francis Garrison; one step brother, Leonard Proehl .
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 17, 2017 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Eureka. Burial will follow services at Upper Fall River Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home at Box #488, Madison, Kansas 66860. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
